People know they need help, even if they are not sure what kind.

Functional and Regression: The Search for Stability
The first and most common request is still the simplest one. Does the product work. Teams want someone to go through the main flows and confirm that nothing obvious is broken. Can a user create an account, log in, complete a key action, and leave without getting stuck.
This kind of functional testing is often asked for right before a release, when nerves are high and time is short. It is less about perfection and more about avoiding embarrassment.
Soon after that comes a quieter but more persistent worry. Every change seems to break something else. A fix in one area creates a bug in another. People become afraid to touch certain parts of the system. This is where the need for regression testing shows up, even if the name is never mentioned. Teams are really asking for stability, for a way to move forward without constantly stepping on landmines they forgot were there.

Automation tends to enter the conversation once repetition becomes painful. Manual checks take time. They get skipped when deadlines loom. Mistakes slip in when people are tired. Teams start asking if tests can run by themselves, reliably, every time. What they want is not just automation for its own sake, but a sense that quality does not depend entirely on human energy and memory.
Performance testing usually appears after a scare. Maybe a campaign brought more users than expected. Maybe a client complained that the system felt slow during peak hours. Suddenly everyone realizes that no one actually knows how much load the product can handle. Performance testing becomes a way to replace guessing with data, to understand where things bend and where they break.

Security testing has grown from a niche concern into a regular request. Sometimes it is driven by regulations. Sometimes by customer requirements. Often it is triggered by news of a breach somewhere else. Even teams who feel their product is low risk start to wonder what they might be missing. Security testing is requested not because teams expect perfection, but because the cost of being wrong feels too high.
Another request that comes up often is usability testing, usually pushed by product or support teams. The system works, but users struggle. They ask too many questions. They abandon tasks halfway through. Something feels off, even though nothing is technically broken. Usability testing helps teams see the product from the outside, through the eyes of someone who does not know how it was built.
Compatibility testing is often reactive. A user reports an issue that only happens on a specific phone or browser. No one internally can reproduce it. Confusion follows. At that point, testing across devices and environments stops being optional.
Some teams eventually ask for exploratory testing, often after feeling let down by checklists. Everything passed, yet problems still slipped through. Exploratory testing gives testers freedom to follow instincts, try strange inputs, and push the product in unexpected ways.
What all these testing requests have in common is vulnerability. Teams ask for testing when they no longer fully trust their own process. They want reassurance. They want fewer surprises.
